Born in Lisbon in 1970, Miguel Neiva finds in photography - always analogue - the comfort of the cause and effect.
Although he studied Management at ESIC in Madrid, Lisbon was his trigger, where he deepened photography at ArCO.. His restless spirit reinforced his voracity for photography through countless trips he did around the world. The geometry lines guide his intrinsic being, functioning as support in an uncertain relationship with own security.
His discomfort arises when some deviation meets these lines, causing disturbance within the dialogue between the space and the photographer.
Miguel Neiva´s photography is subtly inspired by the Baroque that deeply fascinates him, and expresses simultaneously tension and respect in surpassing the original creation. Neiva´s photography goes beyond the image, it is static movement, it is life, stability and meaning.
The spectator is called to approach, and peers as if looking through a portal to another world. This counterpoint, a tension between the large spaces and his medium and large-scale works, implies that the closer we get, the less we manage to look away from their interior discovery and appeal.
Based in Lisbon, Portugal, Miguel Neiva, recognized for his artistic independence, causes a stir in the market. “My photographs are probably the greatest paths to inner silence, and the temperature of the light, with reduced, or not, color variation due to the use of black and white, emphasize the decadent and sublime romanticism of an era”, says Miguel, whose works are already present in private collections in Portugal, Spain, USA, France and Brazil.
